Freakangels Volume 1
Freak Angels is the first collection of Warren Ellis’s online weekly comic. I was curious to see how this weekly digital serial would translate into a collected volume. I was surprised to see how seamlessly all the weeks meld together to tell a tight and cohesive story. I’m not usually a big of steam punk but as usual Ellis is able to put his stamp on the genre and make it entertaining. There are the usual elements of gratuitous violence, swearing, ominous foreboding and sci fi themes that Ellis is known for. Paul Duffield’s art is superb. He really does a great job of creating this dystopian apocalyptic steam punk world. Plus the digital coloring converts well from the screen to the page. This is just a good straight ahead sci fi story with a steam punk twist and the delicate Warren Ellis touch.
